ASOS Tip - Carbon Chic @ Wednesday, September 05, 2012

About a month ago, Demi of Carbon Chic, a economically friendly fashion blogger posted this wonderful ASOS Tip. Which I'm going to repost with pictures. I haven't quite mastered the sizing on blogger yet, so for now click on the pictures to make them bigger.

1. Add items to your cart and go to the checkout.
Notice that the currency is currently in AUD.

2. Change it to GBP.

3. Go to Xe, the currency exchange site, and add your numbers.
Converting GBP back into AUD will give you a lower price.
- Note that this step doesn't affect ASOS, it's just for your understanding -
Edit: I've just realized that's EUR! Let's pretend it's GBP.
8.00 GBP  =  12.0494 AUD

4. Back to ASOS. Type in a code if you have one. And checkout.
6.80 GBP  =  10.2420 AUD

For the dress above it's 13.05, 11.10 with the 15% off code, but if you pay in GBP you save 86c. It isn't much but if I was buying a $100 dress I could save $8.60, with the use of conversion rates and a code.

De Castella Run 2012 @ Sunday, September 02, 2012

Setting the alarm off at 4am, it was around 7.30 before I actually arrived at work. It was cold outside... but then most events are outdoors. As you won't find a track/route inside that goes for miles, unless you count running around a track in a gym fun, with scenery or at least something other than people to take pictures of. With spring approaching (though the weather here ranges between winter and spring within a day, and sometimes hours) events are increasing. Last week's event was the De Castella Run, a fun run (open to interpretation) 5/10/15km. There were lots of age groups, being a family-friendly event, and we were done by noon.

Top picture is of the shirts, we wore.

2k of Showbags

There was a range of jobs available, I do like filling up cups - but I do have a tendency to make them perfectly aligned and that disturbs people a bit, so I try not to do the drink stations. For this event I did showbag distribution. At first we only gave them to people with bibs (they should really come up with a new name for that) which are pretty much number plates sporting events. But towards the end we realized that there were twice as many showbags as they were people (who wanted one).

Our location was opposite the finish line.
Picture was taken before the event, for a better people free view.

Bunny!

As it was family friendly event (with kids walking the 5kms) there was an animal farm with sheep, a calf, a goose, a few chickens, piglets, hamsters/guinea pigs and bunny rabbits :). There was also a face painter and jumping castle. Unfortunately I was dry clean only and so didn't touch anything or go on the jumping castle. :P

What's this? Some sort of chicken, but very fluffy & white...
I believe it's called a 'Silkie', a breed of chicken, I've only ever seen it online.

I love pizza...

... especially seafood!
Though around $20, it's a treat, rather than something you get often.
For a more financially-friendly version I go to Panned Pizza.

Lunch was courtesy of Crust Pizza, Kew. All the people who ran also got I think it was either 50% off or BOGOF (buy one, get one free). All the other volunteers/events team were lovely to work with :) And the weather was nice too fortunately, it was a bit cold when I got there, but by lunchtime the sun was shinning (as seen in the pictures above) and it was warm.

Text here glitched and died. :(

Showbags & Other Things

The above is 3 showbags worth of stuff and some freebies. Volunteers got water, chips and the nuts bar. Participants got a healthy cookie, go natural protein nut bars and corn thins. As always there was lots of flyers/discount papers, mainly for all sport things related. Pink/grey thing is a band of some sort you wear when exercising and you don't want to carry anything. I love sour cream & onion chips. :P

Last Saturday - With Ed and Max @ Sunday, September 02, 2012

On Saturday morning last week we to Fast Ed's book signing/cooking demos Ed's "best known as the cooking presenter on Seven’s Better Homes and Gardens", his style is quick & easy recipes that maybe even I could follow, if I cooked. He did some cooking demos, one of which was omelette. No one really saw anything as there wasn't a tv screen, and it was all side view, but I do think the people standing at the back got a better view than those sitting.

After the demos he did book signings for his new book, the Food Clock. Lily got a picture with him (no that's not her in the picture below). Ed's very very tall, you can't really tell on tv, but irl he's more than six and a half feet tall (around 2 meters)! The tallest not African American person I've ever seen irl.

For those who came early or were lucky, and got a seat, they got a showbag. I love showbags :) buying/receiving them that is, packing them, not so much. Inside each show bag, other than the normal brochures and ads was: a Brumby's $1 voucher, tea, a light white ceramic cup, sugar injected cranberries, a muesli bar, spatula and my favourite Ocean Spray's Cranberry Juice Drink. Cranberries remind me of home, you could buy berries in bulk in the states, but here they sell them in 250g boxes and they're never cheap, being an import.

I feel really strange about taking pictures of people, any pictures of people, I think the last time I took a picture of someone was for a photoshoot last year. I rarely ever post pictures of people (unless they're on book covers), I feel more comfortable taking pictures of things, especially food. We have yet to meet anyone like this.

Lunch - Chicken Puff Pastries
I love these, they're quick and easy to make,
and then you can store them for ages in the freezer.

After picking le beau up from the station we went Max Brenner for afternoon tea. I forgot my camera... even though I had it with me that morning (fast ed pictures taken with dslr) so had to resort to using Lily's iphone. I love my dslr, but being big and 1kg and worth $$$, I rarely ever take it out of the house, and so always use my mini, which is often a hit/miss.
