Starlight Day & Winter Coats @ Friday, May 11, 2012

Another long, busy and stressful week. Part one of the events project due, sent 15 minutes before the deadline ;). It was so busy I didn't have time to post about the event last week till a week later.

Last Sunday was Starlight Day, the main fundraising day for the Starlight Foundation which helps seriously ill (read: cancer and illness where you have tubes coming out of you) children. Instead of a sporting event they went for merchandise sales instead. The guy on the shift before me sold a lot, playing the sympathy vote. Though the friendly couple on with the shift with me got the most sales with their active selling approach. They stood in front, waved flashing wands around (way cooler in the dark) and interacted with the people. Me, I go for a more passive approach, as where I work you don't go up and advertise, unless the person needs assistance.

Management failed. There were these lovely, very soft and furry teddy bears, from last year's (?) event. With no price tag, we had no ideal how much to sell them for. Normally there is a clipboard with the sign in sheet, info, numbers, and sheets for records (cash and stock), there wasn't this year. The number of stock was in the 100s, and we didn't sell much other than wristbands and flashing star fairy wands. Badges came in silver ($5) and gold ($20) people did like the gold, but for a charity that isn't one of the top 5 that comes to mind, it was too pricey. Especially as it was the same size and quality as the $5 ones.

On my own I sold about 5 wristbands ($3) and a wand. Fortunately that was only for an hour, and soon the couple arrived and generated a lot more sales. There were quite a few people who wanted the balloons (for promo only, not sale) and I gave a few away. We're not meant to, but when they see you with the bag it's hard to tell them you don't have anymore. Especially when you want them to go away asap (downs pulled my hair! - see Becky from Glee).

I do like purple :)

After work we went shopping. Or rather buying, in marketing terms, as I knew exactly what I wanted to get - almost. We went to Myers & DJ and wandered around a bit, looking for the winter coat. There were lovely reds, some coats were too heavy, too big, didn't like the design of many. It was quite a mission. That is until we went to Alannah Hill (lovely designs, though a bit $$/$$$), where I found the coat. It came in red, dark dark green, and the classic black. With the very lacy noticeable collar it was a bit much in red, so I went for the black. I love how AH is very creative with the name of her products ^^, I wonder where she gets all that creativity.

Once Upon A Time Coat
Got it in black, but you can see the details better in red.
P.S. It's on sale at the moment.

Things to Do vs Time @ Wednesday, May 09, 2012

So much to do and so little time and energy, and I feel like I'm dying... which isn't helping.
  • On Sunday it was Starlight day, shall blog about it on the weekend.
Monday...
  • ...was spent "going" to an economics workshop (read: class for those who are failing) it was canceled - but I did get points for turning up. There was one other girl there, we went to the office, and of course the office knew nothing about the class or where mr eco was.
  • Got back to the library at 3pm, went looking for the lockers that didn't exist. Found my new coffee place instead.
  • Blacked out in the sauna room (the heating when schizo and controls didn't work).
  • Went to a class on public speaking, it was great. Except for that bit where they said it went to 5pm, but it was actually 6pm so I had to leave to meet the eco tutor.
  • Did 2 things with ms eco. At this point I don't think we're going to be ready for the exam in time. Or maybe I should get a 2nd tutor?
  • Back to the library again, read about culture till my eyes hurt and my vision went funny.
  • Saw a guy with an angry birds' hat and ninja turtle bag on the train.
Tuesday
  • Went to see the dr, turns out the back pain means we have rib issues, and need to have an xray. My back hurts all the time, so I never got it checked out till now. Think I hurt myself picking up a box on Sunday.
  • Found out that cultural crap I read wasn't related to the 2hr essay, other than the use of the word culture, somehow linked with social media networks and privacy. It's not fair, it was like a diversion. Why is the reading listed there as prep. for the essay, when the essay isn't even about culture?!
  • Major gum ache throughout the day, 4 painkillers later and I could still feel it! :(
  • Missed the Closer and it's not online :( cause I was working on that evil events project which I now passionately hate.
  • Events project progress: finished the intro & 1/4 of part 1/5 (excluding formatting the report and all that).
Wednesday
  • Sick day. Headache and other pains. But the gum ache is decreasing - for now.
  • Work done: none.
  • Goal: to complete part 1 & 2.
  • Parcels from Glassons & Alannah Hill. :)

Cheeseburgers & Krispy Kreme @ Saturday, May 05, 2012

It's another one of those very long weeks. Monday was spent asleep, visited Hector on Tuesday (which now seems months away) and met N, the new eco tutor. Missed the eco lecture (now downloading) for a test. Bought a burger, only to be returned on Friday (they used a muffin bun and there was a hair in it!). The manager was very nice about it, apart from the not really believing in accidents part. She offered me a free meal, but I just wanted the burger :P. I really like the chicken cheeseburgers at Red Rooster. Will get pictures next time.

Missed another test for PD on Thursday morning, (there's another session on tues), had a marketing lec & tut. The lec was great, the topic: shopping. Converting buyers into shoppers. What's the difference between a buyer and shopper? A buyer is a person on a mission, much like a military operation. First plan the shortest route between the shops you're going to, then you carry out the operation. You go in, buy that one item, and go out. Do not stop to browse or buying anything unplanned. A shopper on the other hand has no plan (and is often female), and that's what you want. There's more chances of spontaneous purchases and it's a social activity. Also the long someone spends in a shop, the more likely they are to buy something.

That night we did some online shopping :P. Glassons had a $10 off merino sale, and I finally bought something. I've always hesitated to buy online with credit card, as I prefer paypal. But they did say they weren't going to offer it anytime soon, plus it was on sale.

A little after midnight I received a email about a sale from Alannah Hill, and found this top on sale, from $150 to $6! So I bought two, one in each colour. The next day it was $69, seems as though someone forgot the nine on the end :P. Now the question is am I going to get a refund or the product? I do believe I should get the product as the mistake was on their side of the transition.

Btw I ordered the wrong size...

On Friday we missed the lec as always (I do enjoy spending my Saturday night watching it though, while doing my nails) and bought some doughnuts. And that was the summary of the week, nothing particularly interesting happened, other than me eating 6+ doughnuts :P.

Anyone know a free online photo editor that makes collages? I miss picnik.
