Christmas in July Dinner @ Platform 28 @ Thursday, July 10, 2014

Tonight (5th July) we had our 'Christmas In July Dinner' at Platform 28 Bar & Restaurant, named so as it's right next to Southern Cross Station. I do think the furthest platform is like 14 + a couple v-line ones.

I do like the lighting outside, great for drinks.

The Bar!

Tables for two & groups.

We booked one of the rooms.

Lighting is better on the left than right.

Cranberry Jelly

Drinks we created a tropical mocktail, pineapple, apple, orange and cranberry juice with sparkling water. No mint sadly, I should really start going BYO. No pictures as it didn't look that exciting, no smoke or fairy floss.

We had a traditional roast turkey served with sage, onion and pine nut, served with herb roasted potatoes, seasonal greens (snow peas) & house salad (rocket, cherry tomato, onion w dressing). Turkey was a bit overcooked, but the cranberry jello sauce-ish part was lovely.

In between bites we made conversation, I had a gentleman who manages the cafe (open during what I call "brunch hours" 6/7am-4pm) that supplies the lunch for the jury (something Americans passionately hate, though I think is interesting).

Citrus Tart served with Cream & Berry Compote

Dessert is the best course of the day, and tonight we shared with Emily, pudding and a tart. I prefered the tart and she the pudding though we ordered it the other way around. :P Do wish it was much bigger though.

Christmas Plum Pudding with Berry Compote & Brandy Sauce

A enjoyable unique new experience, thanks for organizing it Mal. :)

Might be a bit noisy for a date inside, though perhaps stop for drinks after a stroll around the city at night. Great location, one that you can walk to in heels from the station (though do note there's lots of stairs). This place is $$$, which means mains are $25+. That's really expensive for pub food. But they do have a Monday lunch special. In terms of dessert, there's none on the menu?

I found the food average, though the tart was very good but small. For pub food I prefer 'The Beach' with a great view, though freezing in winter. Dessert, $9 in South Yarra is what I'd recommend.

In other notes I don't know how to track someone using just a car plate.
Especially because it's not his car. In another life I'd be a detective. :P
