Purple Peanuts @ Tuesday, March 12, 2013 Last Friday late afternoon Lily & I went for dinner at Purple Peanuts. It's one of those places that I've always passed but never had the chance to dine at. I recall a time when it was something else and then another time when it was undergoing renovations. There was outdoor seating, but being after 5pm the rush to get the station was on, and so it was very crowded and scary outside. If you want to sit outside perhaps brunch would be a better time to go. Assuming you're fortunately enough not to encounter smokers. One of the first things we noticed when we walked through the door was an octopus! Lily decided that she will call him Ocsar. :P He fits quite well into the What's with the cat? Asked Lily. Well a woman in sweats and flipflops thought it would be perfect timing to yawn and have her huge mouth open in an extremely unattractive manner.
At the counter there was a variety of entrees like a rice salad...
... Tuna & Teriyaki Chicken Sushi...
... more sushi...
... and rice balls! I had the tuna which had seaweed, carrot, celery among
other veggies inside. It was ok. Not too much of a fan of cubed veggies.
Better finely chopped.

We both ordered Teriyaki Chicken, and Lily also got the miso soup.
Teriyaki Chicken 8.90
We both really liked it the Teriyaki Chicken, and will be back to try other dishes. While we were there in the late afternoon or rush hour there was always a constant flow of people going in and out. Several ordered the Teriyaki Chicken, and the sushi was soon sold out (they also ran out of ingredients for making them for the day).
Miso Soup
Lily liked the soup which had spring onion, cubes of tofu, carrot, potato and other things in it, but said it would have been better suited for winter. It was a light soup perfect for an entree she said.
This was her favourite piece of deco which reminded me of
those string VooDoo keychain dolls and the artwork at Peko Peko.
I quite liked this DIY bird garland. I also liked that I got almost all the shots for this post in one visit. Got pictures of all the desserts but believe that I could have gone earlier and gotten more pictures of entrees/snacks in the fridge area.
Chocolate Bars 5.50/8.50
Ganche Chocolates 5.50
Green Tea & Apricot Choc. Bat 4.50
Yuzu Lemon Cheesecake 4.50
3x Yuzu & Passionfruit Macarons 6.00
Green Tea Paste 7.00
Choux Pastry (Vanilla Custard) 3.00
Jelly 4.50/5.00
Pannacotta 5.00
For a little cafe they sure have a lot of desserts, so it's questionable if they make most of the desserts/snacks offered. While the prices for mains are great, dessert is a bit high than expected, especially with the jelly, but it all works out to around 15.00 a meal (main/dessert) so it's still a good price. A great place to go with friends for lunch/dinner, though being small it's best to perhaps get take-away and have it at the park. Not so good for a date or a long lunch. Best to go when there isn't many people around. Brunch of afternoon tea. Krissy said... on March 12, 2013 at 12:25 PM Ooooh this place looks really cool!
