RSPCA Burwood - Open Weekend 2013 @ Tuesday, December 03, 2013

His name is Zeus, when he saw me he came up to the window/glass and put his paw up. He's black white and brown, 8mths old and a terrier of some sort. He's the one I want! No pictures yet. We'll be back tomorrow.

At work today I was the popcorn machine operator and lucky dip assistant. Free popcorn was very popular, kids wanted one each, kids aren't into sharing. Couples were more into it, though not the teens. Almost all the adults with small children made them say their Ps&Qs. Only a couple didn't, I'm not sure if I'm super racist but I noted that they weren't white. Andy says that I'm much more likely to notice if a coloured person of any sort does something wrong than a white person. His "the black guy did it" theory.

Colouring Corner

The lucky dip you could look, lots of candy (canes & lollipops), random branded stuff like pins, keychains, stress toys. But there was also cool stuff like ear headbands, Dora stuff, dice pencil sharpers, sticky notes, and lots of fun rubbers on a paddle pop stick - Smiggle style.

Balloon Animals! Got a poodle, will get a mouse next time.

What I missed out on as I was at work: Lily's making le beau an Advent Calendar for his class (she's not a classroom teacher) each day a different kid gets to open that day's shape. Inside will be a chocolate/candy. They're not all the same.

Turns out Zeus only wanted me for my popcorn. I thought we had something special...

Today we did the welcome "desk" area handing out maps and free raffle entries. There was a balloon guy, made Ariel! And a very cool octopus. I asked for a flower. :)

It's extremely rare that I see anyone I know out and about but today we saw ms psych, with her child. I didn't know she had a kid O.o but I did think she was a cat person. She looked very different with her hair out (at school she always had it in a ponytail). She always had a cool gothic kinda look but without the spikes, mesh, tattoos and make-up. She always wore black skirts (never pants) and boots. She was really good till she got promoted. Then she was super busy and didn't have time for my Qs and had a limit of 3 Qs a day. I like Hector, he was always great and didn't change when he got promoted.

Edited 200+ pictures, the choose ones this week. Haven't had time to blog yet.

Spudbar - South Yarra @ Monday, December 02, 2013

22nd Friday Nov

Once we drove past a Spudbar (lost) and Jas told me about it, he's known about it since they opened their first brand as they did some work with them in the accounting department. But of course he never told me about it... and I'm always picking where to go. Finally one day we were going for pre-dinner dessert at LuxBite and "we" were looking for a place nearby to have dinner. Jas got to choose between a pasta bar or potato bar, he chose the later.

The Classic $8.50
melted garlic butter, tasty cheese, corn, shredded cabbage,
light sour cream & spring onion

I was quite excited about going to Spudbar, it's like Subway but with potatoes.  After an analysis I picked the classic with a sweet potato. It was very good, and huge for me this would be lunch and part of my dinner. Never had canned corn before, that's a first.

This dish/bowl was great value, though that mightn't be the same if you customized it. Though I'd like a Greek one with olives, semi-sun dried tomatoes, basil and feta.

Moroccan Chicken $12.00

chicken & chorizo ragu, baby spinich, spring onion, chickpeas,
peas, carrot, hummus & cucumber yoghurt

Jas had this ^ and he liked it. Jas doesn't talk much, though he intends to start a food vlog on youtube within the next decade or so. This is why I'm the planner.

Link for the menu.

The map on the phone doesn't know where it is, but if you're standing at Soda Rock look around for the 7 Eleven, it's next to there. Not up or down the hill, but towards the shopping strip. If you're taking the tram get off at the stop at Soda Rock.

Selections

Another shot at the menu.

They're open till 9pm on Fridays.

Have you been to Spudbar? Got any combos to recommend?

Lux Bite - Good Food Month @ Sunday, December 01, 2013

Be My Love - My Favourite

Last Friday (22nd Nov) we went to LuxBite for Dessert.

While Jas has never been here I have and love it.

Dessert is always a good idea.

Macarons - $2.75 each.

I had the sour strawberry, he had the champagne.

Limited Edition on a Stick $4

The Menu - $20

This was a bit or rather nibble of heaven! The pink bits are marshmallows.
It was light, fresh and unlike anything I've ever tasted. Love to get a bowl of this.

Banana Souffle with Salted Caramel
This was amazing... never had souffle before.

Opera of Banana

This was also amazing, but you got to eat all the layers together, deconstructed it doesn't taste the same. They sell this in the full size, which I'd like to try, though the Christmas edition things are higher up on my list.

The centerpiece, yes the tree is real. Birds on an angle upset jas.

Opera of Banana

Something Hazelnut - Christmas Version

Green Tea Cheesecake

Strawberry & Cream
Valrhona white chocolate mousse, strawberry cream, compote, sablé Breton
We'll be back next month for this, it's a Christmas Special.

The Lolly Bag

Never liked the lolly bag so we're not keen on trying this. $45.

Christmas Be My Love
Milk chocolate mousse, raspberry cream, dark chocolate crunch, chocolate glaze

Summer In A Tart
Passionfruit tart, pineapple jubes, strawberry marshmallow, freeze dried blackberry
2nd on my list to try. Who wants to go and have half of each with me?

Salted Caramel - Bought one for le beau. Wonder how it compares to Caramelicious.
Hot Chocolate was a disappointment said Jas, don't both.

Will you be visiting LuxBite during November?
